Welcome to For the Health Of It. I'm your host, Corian KPAD Paget, and this is your number one source for all things sports, health, and fitness related. Oh, hold on, coach. What does for the health of it stand for? Good question, Austin. The four and for the health of it stands for our four principles, which are mindset, movement, nutrition, and recovery. Okay, cool. Let's do it for the health of it then. Man, 2021 has been a crazy hectic year. For the health of it was nominated for two award shows the Black Podcasting Awards and the People Choice Awards for podcasts. So as you may be able to tell by that earlier sound, I am now a proud father to a new beautiful baby girl. And I put a little, you know, change in the plans. At the start of this year, I was planning on releasing a new episode every week. But being a new parent, uh it's it's different. It definitely put a halt to those plans. But I appreciate each and every one of you uh for listening to this show. Thank you so much. And now without further ado, let's get into this new episode. Welcome to another edition of For the Health of It. I'm your host, Corey and KPAD Padget. And it's about that time, man. It's about that time I brought my first guest back on here, man. My boy Lawrence Hopkins from Law Fit in Hattiesburg. How you doing, sir? Doing good, man. How about you, brother? Yeah, I'm good. I am good, man. Hey, like I was saying when we were off the air, man. Thank you for again for coming back on here with me, man. No, that's no, it's no problem, man. I appreciate you having me on. Okay, okay. So, man, uh, let's talk about 2020, man. As we all know, 2020 was a crazy year, the pandemic, coronavirus, and all that. So, how has the coronavirus affected your business? Uh, both positively positively and negatively. Um, I would say this. Um when it first happened, man, um it was one of the things that where you know it was unexpected. You didn't know you know what to do and you know how to go out, how to go about certain things. So with me uh having so much free time, I had to you know start start getting like um a lot more creative um with my content, um, start offering free workouts. So by me not having my gym open, I kind of became more virtual uh S's on social media, you know, people reaching out to me, asking me for advice, what can I do at home? And it got to the point to where I started sending out free workouts, and not only did that draw uh a larger crowd to me, but uh it got me more clientele. So that's the positive aspect that I'm um speaking of um when I'm talking about the pandemic part, but um everything turned out for the for the best, man. And I can honestly say um I um I grown from that situation, and hopefully next year will be you know a bit better for all of us, honestly, because we know 2020 has been, you know, historically uh just bad all around. And you know, and you know, God has been uh with me through through this year, the ups and downs, man. I'm just you know um just grateful, honestly. Okay, yeah, man. Uh I ain't gonna lie, you know, I'm watching you all the time, bro. You know, I love what you got going down, and uh man, I noticed that like mid-July, y'all open back up, I want to say, and uh you've been basically rocking and rolling since July, right? Mm-hmm. Yep, pretty much. What's it like working out in this environment where you can only have so many people in, uh, everybody, everybody gotta be masked up, you gotta keep the equipment clean. I know you know about cleaning, man. I know you know. So uh me up about that, man. Um so when we first opened back up, um, you know, it was always it was already guidelines that had to be in place. So, you know, those guidelines kind of already implement, doing beforehand, wiping everything down, cleaning up stuff before you leave, but we had to be, you know, super, super, you know, you know, uh cautious of you know everything that was going on with the um COVID situation. So just cleaning it up, you know, right behind everybody that got done with certain uh weights of uh you know materials and just being um just kind of reiterating like the guidelines. Um as the situation kind of lightened up, um, we kind of still do that to this day. And um I think one of the best things that came out of the situation is people actually cleaning up their mess now. Because you know, back in the day, they people just leave and won't clean anything up. Now everybody is now starting to just clean up behind themselves. So that's the positive thing that came, you know, came about this. Okay, okay, man. Uh you had a uh a gentleman on here or on your uh on your page, he lost I it was from like 19 to 20 uh year. Uh I saw his progress, man. So is is tell me about some of the success stories you had uh with your clients. Um, you know, one of the biggest things that I'm proud of that, you know, majority of my clients kept their goals intact, even though, even though the pandemic hit pretty hard and you know, a lot of people struggling, um, they kind of you know fell off a little bit. But you know, as long as they stay consistent, you know, they want to really chase some perfection, just stay consistent, you know, throughout this whole year. That was the biggest thing that uh that I wanted for them. And a lot of a lot of my clients um accomplish their goals, and I still got a few more that haven't, but you know, we're not giving up. We're still trying to you know achieve those goals um going to next year. And I have uh a lot, you know, different things I want to implement that uh that'll help them along the way. Cool, cool, cool, man. Uh that's dope, bro. My next question, man. Uh what kind of what kind of new certifications are you looking to uh accomplish or goals are you are you looking to accomplish for yourself going into 2021? Uh 2021, um I want the same thing by certifications. Uh one certification always went, you know, you know what it is. Uh yeah, CS, yeah, you know, so you know how that is. Um strength and conditioning. Um, you know, even though I have my bachelor's degree in extra science, I'm very knowledgeable. I've done an internship, I have the experience, and having that certification kind of solidifies me as uh, you know, a guy that actually, you know, knows what he's talking about, even though I already kind of know. So that's one of the certifications that I would like to have um going to next year. Um and speaking on future plans, man, just for the scale of my business, um building um networking um with uh people within the community, um, outside my community and actually just have people know more about me and my team that I'm currently build building right now, and um and um hopefully expanding, bro. Okay, okay. Uh what you mean by expanding? Man, having different location. Okay. Having a different location, man. So, you know, um having a different location uh within a different county or city, you know, um sharing the experience, you know, right across Mississippi, man. So that's one of the things that wanna that I want to do. Um I feel like it's come to the day and age to where the the 24-hour gym is starting to die down, and everybody's really looking for that that um that one-on-one or that group, that group session that um that that's gonna hold, you know, a lot of people accountable. And um that's what a lot of people can get into now. And I feel like you know, what what better chance to start looking to do that, you know, besides now. Right, right, right. So man, uh you mentioned your team, man. Shout out, shout out who uh who you got on your team. So uh who I want to shout at is Lawrence Richards, which is crazy because his dad's named Lawrence, my daddy named Lawrence, he's a junior, I'm a junior. Um me and him became uh good friends and uh business partners uh of last year. He was looking for a place to train. We talked about it and kind of build a relationship from there, man. And um we kind of have the same passion by fitness. We know what we're talking about, we're very knowledgeable. Um we kind of put signs behind everything that we do. And um majority of our clients, if not all, have seen you know the results that they wanted. So um shout out to him. And I have another guy named uh Kendra Lewis, uh his brand called Proceed Shreds. Um he'll be joining me um next year. He's uh in the military as well, and uh has a um day job as well. But he's he's super passionate about uh fitness, um, loves what he does, um, involving everything around just changing lives. And more importantly, man, he more importantly, he knows what he's talking about as far as like you know um diet, how to go about writing workouts out. You know, me, you know, know how important that is when it comes to being a trainer. And um ultimately, man, just um he wants to change lives and actually, you know, transform, you know, be there for the people. And so those are the two guys that um I'm surrounding myself with, and I feel like we can bid off each other. And he also he's he's also um get his masters, I believe. I may be wrong, but um, I think sports administration.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_00:So he kind of, you know, that's that's something he can bring to the to the team as well for like marketing and things like that. So, you know, I think it'll be a uh a great installment to you know what I'm trying to do, and also Lawrence as well. So I think we'll be a uh a great a great team. Yeah, definitely, man. Shout out to y'all, man. Uh also, man, you got a you got another new edition coming. Uh if my guess is right, late May, early June-ish. Uh you got an soon to be daddy, right? Yeah, man, soon to be dad, man. Super grateful, super excited. Um, you know, I never thought I'd see the day, man. But with a perfect time besides now, man, I'm established. Um, I have everything that, you know, not everything, but kind of heading in the right direction that I wanted to go. So, you know, I think it's a perfect time. You know, it's never you never know you're gonna have a child, you know, as we know. But you know, one little thing just happened, but you know, I always take it as a blessing. Uh yeah, same here, man. Uh I when I first saw you make the post, man, I was like, oh snap. You know, because uh I'm expecting it as well, me and my wife. Yeah, and uh it's it's cool, man, just to see your homeboy going through the same thing you're going through. That's a positive thing. And uh man, it's it's grateful, is all I can say I am, man. Me and my wife, we are definitely grateful for this opportunity. Uh I know you'll be a great dad. I know your uh you and your wife are gonna be great parents. Uh I'm speaking that wife into existence right there. Oh, yeah, already. Ain't no the way already. It's the way it's headed. Yeah, man. So uh so chat me up about your girl. Chat me up about her. What she got going? Um man, my girl is super awesome, man. She's uh uh entrepreneur, resting nurse, man. Um, one of the things that draw me to her, she's super ambitious, uh, super passionate about helping others around her, man. And uh most of all, man, very uh loving, caring person, man, that just you know wants to see everybody win. And um, those uh those are the same characteristics that I have for myself, and that will ultimately draw me to her, man. Plus, you know, she's a beautiful woman, so has a head on, right? So that's always I'm not one of those people that say looks don't matter. I'm not that person. They do matter, they do matter. I'm sorry. Back to the subject in hand, right? Right, right, right, right. Hey man, so uh if you're on mine, man, tell me how y'all met. So, man, we met. Um, actually, I was um training her right, and she was trying to get right, and basically, man, you know, we just try to, you know, became good friends. And uh, you know, you never want to miss personal with business. So it's one of the things to where I was like, yeah, you know, I don't know if you know she's serious about it, but you know, I just saw the type of woman she was, man, and you know, one thing late to another, man, we ain't been together, man. So, you know, we've been been together for a year now, and then um it's been a dream, man. Cool, cool, cool. So did she fire you as her trainer? Pretty much. I think that I think she I think she just did that just to get me, but you know, she said, you know, she said she that wasn't it, but you know. Okay, okay. I understand, man. I know and I try to get my wife right, man. She she's hard-headed and stubborn. Man, I hey man, you can't train it's hard, man. You can't, it's hard to be your wife. I mean, your girlfriend and wife's trainer, man. They uh they don't separate the two. You really can't, man. It really is, it really is hard, man. Uh, I don't know if your girl was a was a uh was an athlete in college, but I was so you know, she she are like I said, man, my wife loves, she's uh I don't want to say argumentative uh or confrontational, but uh she said to me once that she would if she wasn't gonna be a physician, she was gonna be a lawyer. So you know, she likes to argue and whatnot. So she always she always has some some kind of rebuttal, man. And you know, yeah, yeah, yeah. She's intelligent, so it's not like she doesn't know what she's talking about, but man, right, man, it I can't wait no argument train her mom over her. Yeah, you can't win no argument. You just gotta be quiet. I too, man. Okay, baby. I love you. Right, right, all right. You got it, you got it. Right, right, man. So uh chat me up, man. Uh what are we got the five components of physical fitness, right? And the five components of physical fitness are uh muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. So, out of those five, which do you believe is the most important and why? Oh, that's a hard one. Because they man, they all important, man. But I would have to say, man, I'll probably have to say either body composition or flexibility, because those are the key components of living an everyday life. Because, you know, you can't be too heavy, walk around, you know, depending on what your job is. You know, weight can do a lot of damage to our knees, our joints, and things like that. And then with flexibility, um, just being being uh being mobile, the older we get, your joints and things like that, they tend to, you know, um kind of you know die down as you know the older we get. So it's kind of hard to choose between those two. But if I had to say, I'll probably say uh body composition, because that plays a big toll into everything, you know, that we that we do every day. So, you know, if I'm too heavy, I can't, you know, climb those flight of stairs, or I can't get into this truck that I'm you know, that I just bought, you know, it's too tall for me, I'm having trouble, or I'm getting I'm getting too windy, you know what I'm saying? So I'll probably say body composition. Okay, all right, it makes sense, man. Uh I I I completely understand that, man. Uh, so my next question for you is uh this this this series of my podcast that I got going on right now, I'm asking all these people, you know, what tips do you have, besides the five components question? What tips do you have for getting in shape and staying in shape for 2021? Honestly, and one of the things that goes into everyday life, staying consistent. Um not being perfect, but staying consistent. And with that being said, is I just want people to understand that it's gonna be days that you're gonna eat bad. It's gonna be days that you're not gonna feel like working out, you know, but you can't give up. And like I said, that goes into everyday life. Um, you know, we may have a bad day, but that doesn't mean we have to give up our ultimate goal. And whether that's you know, you gaining muscle, you know, um, losing weight, losing body fat, um, growing your butt, anything like that, you know, just stay consistent, you know, be patient with yourself, with yourself, and um just know that you know Rome wasn't built in one day, and so wasn't the earth. So God took his time building the earth, so you should take your time building your goals, man. Ooh, I like that one, man. I always heard the wrong one, but I never heard the god one, but that's that's facts right there, man. Yeah, it's facts. I like that, man. Uh and consistency, like you said, man, consistency is a major key. You gotta, you just gotta stay consistent with it. And like you said, because not every day you're you're gonna wake up and be like, yeah, I'm gonna love this workout today, you know. You just gotta get up and stay with it, man. I keep hammering at it. Uh, somebody told me one time, man, he was like, if you think about it, most people will put on between October and December, they'll put on about seven pounds. And he said between January and September, they'll drop four pounds. Right? So he said seven minus four is three. But if you do that over four years, that's 12 pounds you done put on. You know what I'm saying? And 12, and he was like, Man, you know, at first you don't notice it, you know, it's not it's not you know easy to notice, but after those three to four years, you're gonna notice, hey man, in 2016 I was 175. Now I'm 192 or 195 or something like that, you know. It's like, man, you know, you you're not putting on that weight at at one time like that. You you put on four pounds every year, so it's gonna take a while to take off those what 12 pounds or however many pounds you're trying to take off. So, man, uh, like you said, man, just staying consistent. You consistently put on the weight, now you got to consistently drop the weight. I I like what you said with that consistency, man. Uh, but back back to uh back to a little more personal questions, man. Uh like I said, you expecting a child, man. You are you hoping for a boy or a girl? What you hold on, hold on. Before you get because I'm expecting also, obviously, man, we we both want help, healthy, happy babies, you know, 10 10 fingers, 10 toes, 1, 2 ears, a nose, and a mouth. All right, we we always want a healthy baby. Let's let's be honest with ourselves. You want a boy or a girl? Uh you know what? I thought I would know this answer by now, but honestly, man, I don't care. Like, I can see myself being a girl dad, you know. Oh, I can just see my, you know, I can just see both, honestly. I just, man, I'm just I'm really excited, excited, man. To be honest, I'm just ecstatic, man. But I already know what you want. What I want, man. I already know you want a boy, man. I already know it, man. You already know you want to carry the torch. I need a torch bearer, man. Not saying that if I have a little girl, she can't carry the torch, also, man. Right, right, right. Man, hey, if if whatever the Lord bless me with, like you said, man, I'm gonna be I'm gonna be happy. Uh boy or girl. Uh just know I'm pretty sure I'm the first Korian you ever met, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, if I have a little boy, uh Junior Second Corion. Junior, man. Second Corion. Second Korean. Boy, you so I'm serious. I can't. I'm already a junior, man, so I can't do that. I'm not naming my son a third, man. I want my, I want to have my I want to uh I want to my son to have his own identity, man. So I don't want him to follow in my shadows, even if he don't he doesn't live up to the expectation that I have for him or whatever. You know, I just want my son or whoever it may be to have their own identity, build their own legacy, you know. If they want to build on mine, then fine. But you know, we all they all gonna be different individuals. Facts on that, man. Facts on that. Uh, how's everything going with your family? Um everybody's good, man. Um, my dad's doing good, man, still going hard. Uh, 56, you know, still young, still moving around. Uh, my brother's doing good, still producing, making beats, things like that. Um, my sister, she's doing well. She just got a house, and my brother, he's doing well as um as well. He's doing well. Um, his kids just had an awesome Christmas, man. Um, my uh niece, she just won a pageant, and she'll be going to uh Arkansas this summer, man, to compete on the highest level, man. She wins, she'll win a um, I want to say a modeling contract, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, man. So it's pretty dope, man. Um my nephew, he's uh been playing basketball, football, and uh my other nephew, man, he's about to get up out the house, man. About to graduate soon. So, you know, everybody's doing good, everybody doing their thing. So that's what's up, man. That's what's up. Uh man, you your brother makes beats? I ain't know that. Yeah, man. He uh he makes pretty you know dope beats, man. Pretty dope beats. Yeah, does he work with uh that UBI guy? No, no, no, he don't work with them. They they they used to work together, but not anymore. Okay, cool, cool, man. Uh I saw you on there, man. Uh I saw you on a couple things, like I said, man. You know I'm following you and whatnot. So yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Keep grinding, bro. Definitely keep grinding, man. You you know I'm a fan of your work. And uh you're more importantly, man, you're one of my friends, especially in this industry, bro. Uh before before we get out of here, man. Uh, what advice do you have for anybody that's looking to uh get into the fitness industry as a personal trainer or uh strength coach, whatever it may be, or anybody looking to start their own business? Man, you already know what to say. You already know what I'm about to say. It don't get old, man. It does get old, man. You know, and I I say this a lot, and people just think we just you know, talk about uh Michael Thomas, or not Michael Thomas, but Ari Thomas. I tip all the time, man, this it runs deep, man, because if your why isn't big enough and your dreams and goals, they're not worth chasing. You see what I'm saying? Um and you had to tell everybody your why, as long as you know why you're doing it, you know, applying that work and dedication to whatever you want, you know, your life to be, man. Um that that's what it's all about. Like, like, you know, you know my story, how you know I got to this point, man. And if my why wasn't big enough, then I would have stopped a long time ago. Hardships, hard times are gonna come for sure, man. But you know, um keep God in the middle of everything you're trying to do, if not in the front. Um, I won't say in the middle, but in the front of everything that you do, man. Um ask God to direct your uh or order your steps, man, and ask him to put the right people, you know, in your life to help you get to the point, you know, where where you want to be. Because we all need help. We all don't do it alone, even though we might seem like we do it alone. I haven't got to this point by myself. Um, I have multiple people help me and guide me, you know, advise me, you know, to get where I am, and hopefully I continue to elevate, but always remember remember your why and continue to you know keep your morals and and your character intact and different situations. There's gonna be situations to where you know those things are called into question. But remember who you are, stay stay true to yourself, man, and you know, don't forget where you where you came from. Keep that uh keep that chip on your shoulder. Facts on that, man. Uh once you mentioned your story, man. I never forget, bro. You were you were legit working what like a graveyard shift at McDonald's. Now two hours of sleep, going to Insburn at Southern Mist, and then man, you messed around and got a job at uh Home Depot or something like that, man. I was like, this dude is crazy, but okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely, bro. You you always you always been on your grind, man, and that's admirable. That is definitely admirable, man. So yeah, man. Uh before we get out of here, man, shout out all your social media again. Uh man, y'all can find me at Law Fitness uh underscore 25. Um Law Fitness, uh, my business page on Facebook. Um and uh also my website, lawfitness.net, where you can book your sessions. Um I got products for our sweat gel, sweat bands, um my own apparel for our short shirts, um, tees, and also um uh workout, workout tees. So yeah. Okay, cool, cool, cool. All right, man. Well, Lawrence, man, appreciate you getting back on here, man, with me. Uh, like I said, it's always a pleasure to get you on. I'm glad. I'm sorry it took so long, but I'm glad you uh I'm I'm glad you got on. Uh I hit you up and you you you said cool, let's do it, ASAP uh on a 24 hour notice, man. So I appreciate that. No problem, man. Thank you, man. Thank you. This has been another episode of For the Health Of It. I'm your host, Corian KPAPPadrick.
